CRHS - Ambassadors of Love
Our History....
The Coulee Region Humane Society's Pet Therapy Program began in 1985 with one very special dog and one very dedicated volunteer.
Our current program has grown tremendously since then. In 2008 our visits touched the lives of well over 71,000 residents in and around the Coulee Region.
What is Pet Therapy? It is all about Connection!
connection | ke'nek sh en| (Brit. also connexion)
noun
1. a relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or associated with something else: anything that links or bands a relationship to a circle of friends or associates.
Pet Therapy....
Linking one being to another...in one very simple step.
Introduce one of our Pet Therapy dogs to a person in need...and the simple can become the magical!
For children struggling with reading...they bring safety and comfort and the confidence to try it again...and succeed!
For anyone in times of transition...the dogs bring a special sense of continuity and importance.
Forpatients away from home with machines beeping at their sides...they bring unconditional love and acceptance!
When the workday has been especially tough or stressful. The dogs bring a smile and a sense of relief...and a chance to regroup and recharge.
These are just a few ways in which our Pet Therapy teams connect with the community around them. The one universal need we all have...to feel important, to feel valued, to feel special...and yes...to feel connected. That is what each of our Pet Therapy dogs bring to the people they visit.
