We get it, bringing a dog into your life is a big decision. Dogs, like people, can take a little time to settle in and show who they really are. That’s why we offer a chance for you to spend some time getting to know them before you commit. It’s all about finding the right fit—for you and for them.

Open Viewing

The best place to start, Open Viewing! Come and see the dogs we currently have in the shelter. We have even extended viewing hours from 1-5pm and added Open Viewing to Saturday as well!

Every week, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 1-5pm you can come see our in house dog-os!

Doggy Day Out

Saw a dog you liked during Open Viewing? The next best step is a Doggy Day Out! Our Doggy Day Out program allows you to take a dog out for the day. Head to a park, go on a hike, even hang out at home (as long as there are no other pets).

Get to know more about the dog and let the dog learn something about you. It’s a perfect way to see if there is a potential match. Interested in a Doggy Day Out? Email our Volunteer Coordinator at gabby.mattison@couleehumane.com.

Doggy Sleepover

Did you make a special connection during your Doggy Day Out? Thinking about doing it again? If the answer is yes, you might be ready to take things to the next level—with a Doggy Sleepover!

A Doggy Sleepover gives you the chance to spend even more quality time with a shelter pup in a home setting. It's perfect for dogs who really hit it off with their day-out buddy and helps them relax, decompress, and show off their personality even more.

If you’ve bonded with a pooch and don’t have other pets at home, a Doggy Sleepover might be a great fit. Just one night can make a big difference in a dog’s life—and maybe yours too.

Foster to Adopt

You’ve taken your potential pup out for a walk and even welcomed them for an overnight stay—so, what’s next? Foster to Adopt!

We’re excited to offer potential adopters the chance to take the next big step: a two-week foster-to-adopt period. That means your dog will live with you full-time at your home, giving you both the chance to settle in, bond, and see how well your lives fit together.

It’s the perfect way to make sure the connection is real, the routines are right, and your new best friend is truly at home with you—before making it official.
