Experience with and how well do they interact with children: Deux Beau came home from Iowa as an 8 week old puppy and met my grandchildren who were at that time mostly young adults. My youngest grandson was in the 7th grade and youngest granddaughter was about 7. He bonded strongly with my youngest grandson as we would take him to and from school each day. He has lived in our home with my elderly husband and I so he has had no experience living with children.
Experience with and how well do they interact with cats: Deux Beau hasn't had any interaction with cats since he came home to us.
Experience and how well do they interact with dogs: Deux Beau had social play with my granddaughters female dogs (medium and large) until he sexually matured when he became a little aggressive snapping at the large dog over the food and water bowls.
My husband selected a male British Black Lab to come home when Deux Beau was a year old. Beau was a wonderful and attentive brother to Baron up until Baron sexually matured when they had a fight in our kitchen. They were both hurt and so were my husband and I because we tried to break them up. We were able to separate them because Beau let go of Barons scruff and ran outside while I shut the door holding on to Barons collar. My husband insisted that they both remain intact as males. For a year I kept one kenneled while the other pup was out. This July Beau broke out of his kennel and attacked Baron in our yard. The police separated them and again all of us were hurt and went to hospital for stiches. In August my husband let the kenneled pup out and we had another backyard fight. Deux Beau barks at dogs walking outdoors when we drive.
He has calmed down a good bit since he was neutered both when we drive and when our dog walker takes him walking three times a week.
Deux Beau is a very loyal and bonded lab with me. I think he is protective of me and wants to be wherever I am. He has a great deal of energy and living in a kennel for three hours alone in a room is difficult for him. Once he has a turn for three hours he is a joy and happy to be wherever I am.Things need to work on: Deux Beau is selective about who he jumps up on. Normally only people he really loves to see who have come to visit our home like my Grandson, my daughter, our dog walker. We have been working on that for a while. He barks a good bit when he has been in his crate alone for a couple hours and wont stop until he is let out. He is normally needing water or to be let outside to potty.
Deux Beau went to three weeks of Basic Obedience training when he was nine months old and learned to walk on the leash, heal, place, ect. He is a very big boy and walks well ever since.
Currently he is attending three weeks training in hunting skills at Whitewater Retrievers in Dover Minnesota.Favorite activities: Deux Beau loves the mornings. He often will grab one of his toys and make a running circle around the living room. He drinks water and goes out to potty and then comes in for a treat and finishes off his meal from the night before.
He enjoys going for walks and fetching the ball in our yard. He loves having company and being loved on and spoken to. He watches birds eating at our feeders from the windows. He enjoys our evening bedtime ritual of massage and prayer and sleeps well.
He loves a car ride! He enjoys sitting on the top step of our kitchen door in the sunshine.Favorite treats and/or toys: Deux Beau is very careful with his toys not to chew them up. He loves playing with soft squeaking toys that he will play like an instrument! He enjoys soft bunny rabbit toys. He will chase a ball. He loves bites of salmon and organic meat from us. On occasion bites of strawberry Haggen Das Ice Cream from me. His treats are Blue Buffalo True Chews Chicken flavor and NutriChomps Dog Chews 6 inch twists in chicken.
Unique personality traits: He has a very wide vocabulary and listens intensely when spoken to. He waits for permission to eat or drink. He insists on very cold water! He will when bored or unable to get my attention he will snatch a rug from the bathroom and run with it in his mouth into the living room until I convince him to drop it. He will do the same with a kitchen towel or socks or slippers or a shoe, so I keep those items put away!
He loves to wink at us! He has a nerve under his right ear that makes his mouth twist and doesn't like that type of touch.Ideal home: I deeply love Deux Beau and this situation is not one I ever imagined happening. I am grieving. The reason I am wanting to find a new home for him is because of his energy and zest for life, and because he deserves a life that meets his needs as an only pet devoted to one or two adults (30 yrs and older) in a stable healthy lifestyle that loves, nurtures and includes him in daily activity. Ideally a home where there is active time like fishing, hunting, hiking, swimming and the like. I hope that his discipline be loving and firm but not physically and or emotionally hurtful. We do not watch tv or include drinking alcohol in our home. I hope he will have a large and fenced place to be outside. We hope to have ongoing communication and photos across time with the new family.
I am unsure about children with Deux Beau.Best way to contact: Email, michellejplante@gmail.com
