Hi, i’m tinker!

ABOUT :

  • Type Of Animal: Dog

  • Breed: Chihuahua /terrier mix

  • Age: 12.5

  • Gender: Female

  • Up To Date On Vaccinations: No

  • Spayed/Neutered: Yes

  • Is your dog house trained: Yes, Crate Trained, House Trained

  • Energy level/ daily exercise needs: Low (minimum15-30 minutes) – leash walk or time spent in yard.

  • Experience with and how well do they interact with children: Tinker has not been around small children and wouldn’t be trust worthy around small children. She does okay with my 14 year old great granddaughter, but at times, Tinker will get snippy/possessive. Would be best in a home without young children or animals.

  • Experience with and how well do they interact with cats: Tinker has been aggressive towards my granddaughter’s female cat who is also older (14 & sleeps a lot). Tinker shows aggression/possessiveness when her cat has tried to drink from any of the 3 water bowls available in the kitchen/dining area.

  • Experience and how well do they interact with dogs: Tinker does better with medium to large sized dogs. She gets a little skittish, and even possessive over certain spaces, shred of beds or shared water bowls. She would do best in a home without other animals.

  • Things need to work on: Tinker is over all very well behaved. She does not have accidents. She has her own kennel that she retreats to when she needs a calm, safe space or wants to get away from my granddaughter’s 6 month old puppy. She used to nip or launch at myself or family when they went to lock her kennel, but since she has been with my granddaughter, Tinker has not been aggressive when needing to be removed from her kennel. My granddaughter is able to reach in the kennel now and pick her up out of it without Tinker being reacting aggressively. She barks quite a bit when hears noises she isn’t familiar with or new people come into the home. She is protective over me and our family members.

  • Favorite activities: Tinker loves car rides, spending time on the furniture look out the window, and taking walks. She has enjoyed chewing on her blankets and putting holes in my socks. Tinker does have a front leg that gives out at times causing her little chin to hit the ground, but it doesn’t seem to bother her, she just keeps right on moving along, enjoying her walk as if nothing had happened.

  • Favorite treats and/or toys: She enjoys purina dog food for older dogs. She enjoys most treats and loves people food, but my granddaughter weaned her off people food in March of 2023 when Tinker had to stay with her for 3-4 months while I couldn’t care for her. Ever since then, she only eats dog food and dog treats.

  • Unique personality traits: Possessive over food/water/kennel. Likes to chew on her blankets/ old socks. She has had anal gland infections in the past year and has several vet visits to have her anal glands expressed. This was last done in the fall of 2024, I believe. We have used a little water squirt bottle to keep her from barking when she really gets going, otherwise it’s just me telling her to be quiet a lot, which doesn’t work great. She’s a barker, always has been.

  • Ideal home: Quiet, calm home with no other animals and no kids. She has her own kennel with a bed enclosed in a waterproof cover, little dog sofa, blankets, mini dog stuffed animal that keeps her company in her kennel, food dishes, collar, and leash. She really has been great, but I can’t care for her anymore and she isn’t thriving with my granddaughter’s puppy.
