  • Experience with and how well do they interact with children: Gamma has grown up alongside our 2-year-old son and has shown a consistently gentle and tolerant nature. From infancy through toddlerhood, he has been incredibly patient—even when our son would crawl over him or try to engage him in play like tug-of-war. He was never bothered and always remained calm and friendly. As our son became more mobile and curious, Gamma began showing protective behavior around his food. If our toddler tried to reach into his bowl during mealtime, Gamma would respond by gently mouthing or "nipping" as a warning—not aggressively and never with any injury or marks. He has never bitten a child. Outside the home, Gamma also interacts well with neighborhood children, happily playing alongside them without any issues. With proper supervision and respect for his space during meals, Gamma is a wonderful companion for children.

  • Experience with and how well do they interact with cats: Gamma has been raised alongside three cats and gets along very well with them. He is especially gentle with one cat who frequently grooms him—he’ll sit very still and patiently allow it. With another cat, he sometimes tries to initiate play by chasing, but it’s always playful and never aggressive. He responds well when told to stop.

  • Experience and how well do they interact with dogs: Gamma was raised alongside our 8-year-old Golden Retriever, and the two have always played very well together without any conflict. He’s also socialized in dog parks and doggy daycare settings, where he consistently interacts positively with other dogs of all sizes. The only time he shows any discomfort is around very dominant dogs that try to hump him—if he feels overwhelmed, he may growl to set boundaries, but he has never shown aggression or initiated a fight. During walks, Gamma can get excited or reactive when other dogs pass by. He will bark and pull on the leash, especially if the other dog is close.

  • Things need to work on: Gamma can be a bit mouthy during play or when being handled for things like nail trims. That said, he has visited the groomer multiple times without any issues. We’ve never been asked to muzzle him or take special precautions. In fact, the groomers often comment on how much they enjoy working with him, even preferring his calm demeanor over our more energetic Golden Retriever. He is also very well-behaved at the vet. Despite his size, Gamma is a gentle dog who gets nervous during vet visits and will often try to hide behind us for comfort. He has never shown any aggression toward veterinary staff.

The reason we are rehoming Gamma relates to behaviors that have been challenging for our family to manage. Gamma is a territorial dog and tends to bark and pull on the leash when people or other dogs walk by during walks. Similarly, he will bark at people or animals passing by our home, which has required us to keep our blinds closed most of the time. Inside the home, he will bark persistently at visitors, particularly men. While he has never shown any violence or bitten anyone, his barking can be intimidating and make guests uncomfortable. Unfortunately, professional training is not financially feasible for us, and our own efforts have not been effective in resolving these behaviors.

  • Favorite activities: Gamma is a playful and energetic dog who especially loves a good game of tug-of-war. He gets excited for car rides and enjoys being part of any outing. Outdoors, Gamma loves to run, explore, and sniff around. He has a free-spirited nature and can sometimes become so engaged in his surroundings that he’ll wander off if not contained. For that reason, he does best in a securely fenced area or on a long leash during outdoor play.

  • Favorite treats and/or toys: Gamma enjoys chew toys and tug ropes. When it comes to food and treats, he can be a bit picky. He likes Greenies and will happily chew on them, but isn’t a big fan of vegetables like carrots. That said, if another dog shows interest in his food—even carrots—he’ll usually eat them just to keep them for himself!

  • Unique personality traits: Gamma is a big, cuddly boy who loves to sleep in bed with us and doesn’t let his size stop him from being affectionate. He’s not one for traditional games of fetch—if you throw a ball, he likely won’t chase it. But if another dog wants the ball, he’ll grab it just to play keep-away. At the dog park or with neighborhood dogs, Gamma tends to hang back and observe rather than join in the action. He prefers sniffing around and watching the other dogs play, often seeming a bit awkward when engaged. One of his funnier quirks is how he “waddles” when he goes to the bathroom—he has a distinct walk and tends to leave a trail rather than a single pile, so you’ll always know which one is his!

  • Ideal home: Gamma is a loving, loyal companion who would make a great addition to the right home. He does very well with children and has been especially tolerant and gentle with our toddler. However, due to his food-protective behavior, he may be better suited to a family with older children who understand how to respect his space during mealtimes.

Gamma is well-socialized with other animals—he’s been raised with cats and gets along well with dogs of all sizes, especially in supervised and familiar settings. He does best with slow introductions to new dogs and people. A home with a securely fenced backyard would be ideal, as Gamma loves to be outdoors where he can run, explore, and sniff to his heart’s content.

Because Gamma has some territorial and reactive tendencies, particularly with barking at passersby or guests in the home, he would thrive in a home with someone who has experience managing these behaviors. Gamma is a loving and loyal dog, but he would thrive best with someone who can train him, and who can provide the structure and guidance he needs.
